Our guest Elaine Glass shares her personal story about her connection to a sacred tool called a labyrinth and how she was able to tap into her trusted inner voice to help overcome the challenges of health issues, divorce, single motherhood, and a career transition. She explains how many of us shut down our imagination which disconnects us from the ability to access the message of our potential. We talk about the importance of creating a space for yourself to hear the guidance, so you don’t feel lost anymore.

Her message to us: “If you are feeling lost, go walk a labyrinth and you will be found.”

Elaine is extremely passionate about empowering women, especially to be able to navigate difficult life transitions. Elaine is a spiritual guide that shares her wisdom with us on how to gain clarity by connecting to our most precious inner resource, which we truly need in this fast paced, frenetic world. She has guided people worldwide to tap into their intuition and how to overcome challenging times. Let's get started.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

Hello everybody. It's another episode of when Spirit calls and I'm so happy to be with our extra special guest today, the lovely Elaine glass is here. Hello, Elaine,

Elaine Glass:

Hello, DeAnne. So nice to be with you today.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

I am so excited to dive right in with you. You know, as I was getting to know you before this, before this interview, there were so many pieces that I was just like, ooh, ooh. So let's dive in here. Let's get everyone started with a little bit of your backstory and and why you do the work that you do today, what brought you to where you are today. We want to know.

Elaine Glass:

Well, just like most of us, we learn in pain, and I had my rock bottom moment in my early 40s, when I had the dream life. It would look like the dream life anyway, from the outside looking in, I was married to a doctor. I lived in a big house. I had two gorgeous, you know, young sons. I had a career of my own, but what no one saw was that inside that house, I would cry myself to sleep every night, and it was not a happy home. And after 14 years, nearly 14 years of marriage, I made the most difficult decision, and that was to leave my husband with two small children, and I never thought it would ever happen to me. I don't think any of us can predict this or plan that type of things right. And so what had happened was my life had gotten so loud, I'd gotten so distracted, I had stopped my conversations with God and spirit, yeah, and I had lost my way. And so I had to find really quickly my way, because I had two small sons that were relying on me, and I needed to get healthy quickly, mind, body and soul, and so that's what inspired me. You know, first it was they inspired me, my boys, because sometimes we can't find it in ourselves.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

It's true, yeah, when we're in that place of such despair, right? It's that despair place. It's like, how do we find that inspiration to keep going. And I'm so glad that you were able to find it in your kids.

Elaine Glass:

Thank you. I did, and that's what a lot of women do. They do find the inspiration that will to say, I am no longer going to live this way. No longer will my children live this way. And I just became unwilling, so I got quiet, because that's what I sensed the most that I needed in this loud, chaotic world I was living in, in this loud, chaotic world we're all living in. And I found a retreat center that was right by my house one day, and in the back of this retreat center in the desert, I live in Paradise Valley, Arizona, so it's very quiet and very still. The desert is very still. And I started walking this labyrinth because I found this beautiful labyrinth in the back. Of the property. Wow. I didn't know what a labyrinth was. All I saw were circles in the desert. And I thought, well, that's kind of intriguing. What's that about? So for anyone who doesn't know what a labyrinth is, it's a 4000 year old, ancient meditative tool, and it's not a maze, so it doesn't confuse you, but it is a metaphor for life in that you walk in one way in and one way out to the center and but there's twists and turns, just like life paths for us. So I started walking this labyrinth, and I was the only one there the very first time I found it, it was August in Arizona, so it was fairly hot, but it was one of my favorite times of the evening, which is around sunset. So there was the this little bit of cool that I did feel, but I also felt the sun on me. I also felt the breeze on my skin. I heard the birds singing. I heard the crunch of the gravel under my feet. For the first time, my senses were so heightened to nature, and what I realized now is that it was my own human nature that was mirroring that, that nature I found in that moment. And in that moment, I felt profound inner peace, a peace that I had not felt in many, many years. Wow. And I said to myself, Okay, there's something here, and I need to pay attention to how I feel in this moment at this labyrinth. So that's where it started.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

Oh, I am goosebumps listening to the labyrinth story. You know, first of all, I love that the labyrinth called you in because there's, there's no surprise right here that, you know, spirit called you to that labyrinth, that that was part of your medicine in your process. And here's what's really interesting, when I was moving through a very difficult time in considering leaving my husband at the time, I went to a renewal center, and guess what, they had labyrinth. So I too use the labyrinth as part of my healing tool, but I haven't talked about it since, so the fact that you're bringing it up even to me is synchronistic, and I think it's important, because someone listening needs to know that this is another tool that's available for them. And if they don't know where labyrinths are, they can even make their own, but they're found in many different parks and retreat centers as well. So start digging if you feel called to walk the labyrinths, because is a wonderful vortex of connection and really connecting with our true nature, right? Yeah, love that.

Elaine Glass:

And you can go to labyrinth locator.com, and it will, there's a worldwide labyrinth locator, and it will tell you exactly where to find them perfect love that one thing that I'll mention when we start this spiritual journey. You know, I had a very, I think, sound religious foundation growing up, but when I found this renewal center, it was the Franciscan renewal center in Paradise Valley, Arizona. It wasn't my faith background, and there was a moment where I was very resistant to entering and I had to work through some things to realize like you have permission to examine and explore and have the curiosity of other faiths or other spiritual practices. And that I find for my clients especially, is a huge, huge hurdle. It was for me. It was for me so that, I think, is very important to note in the story.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

I'm so glad that you brought that to the surface, because we oftentimes close doors on opportunities of healing because of limited beliefs or because of programming or whatever upbringings that we've had, and so what you're saying here is, don't let that stop you from being curious or leaning in. Give it a chance. Yeah.

Elaine Glass:

it changed my life to to be able to explore and expand from a religion to then my spiritual practice,

DeeAnne Riendeau:

Beautiful. I love that. Thank you for adding that in there. So you had this spiritual, you know, evolution, went through the divorce, found the labyrinth. Now the story doesn't quite end there. You understood a bit more about yourself. But what are the things that you you. You learned as you went through this process, and the things that you did that you wish, that you maybe would have known ahead of time, or the things that would have been more beneficial to help you along the journey, curious to know

Elaine Glass:

The word trust comes to me right now, trusting myself, because the very first time I got to the labyrinth, like I said, there was nobody there that day, and it was so quiet, and I started walking these paths that traversed around. And you're right, it is like a vortex when you get in there and something spoke to me. It was as if it was right here on my shoulder, clear as day. I believe it's my soul's voice, God's voice, what I had disconnected from in the chaos and noise of my life. It was so clear in that labyrinth I would have heard the most important I did hear the most important message that day, the very first time I walked the labyrinth, and that message was loud and clear, surrender, yes, and 15 years later, it would be the most important message I heard, and what I would do differently to answer your question, I would trust these messages for myself immediately, without question.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

Ah, isn't it so often where we get these intuitive insights, or Spirit speaks to us and then, and then we question it, and then we doubt it, and then we don't do the thing, or we don't act on it, and then ultimately, it will come back around at some point, if we don't listen right away, won't it? Yeah,

Elaine Glass:

The funny thing happened, though, so I hear this message, surrender. I think I'm going a little crazy because I'm walking in circles in the desert listening to a voice that I had totally disconnected from, but wanted so desperately to to trust and to have faith in, because I was so desperate for direction back then, clear direction, not from the noise of The outside world, not from the fear based talk, but from the true loving space of my soul's voice. So after that day, I went back to my car, I turned the radio on Deanne, and there was a message on the radio of an announcer talking about surrender of all things,

DeeAnne Riendeau:

of course, you got spiritual validation right there.

Elaine Glass:

Immediately, yeah, and I believe that spirit is so desperate and so longing for us to open that channel up, and so longing to like, give that immediate recognition of Yes, yes, you're here and so. But it's funny, because the story is actually funny. I didn't go back for another month to that retreat center because I was a little freaked out. Wow, yeah, because I knew there was something big happening there. I knew that there were changes about to happen in my life, even though positive, it was still change, and I didn't know if I was quite ready for that.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

And how often do we do that right, where we lean in a little bit, and then it's like, Oh, wait. You know, take a step back. You know, oftentimes I speak with my my clients as well. I invite them to use no wonder. No wonder I didn't quite listen right away. No wonder. Because, again, all the conditioning, all the programming, all of the experiences, are holding us back, often times, out of fear. And so we just say, Oh, no wonder Elaine wasn't quite ready yet. No wonder. And it gives us that energy of grace, you know, to give ourselves grace as we move to the process, so that we're not, you know, forcing ourselves, or, you know, being driven into doing something that isn't in full alignment. And chances are you probably just weren't quite ready, or whatever was next.

Elaine Glass:

So what was next? I went back a month later when I was ready, and I walked the labyrinth again, and I started humming that Michael Jackson song, you are not alone. I am here with you. I was like, that's that's weird. Why am I? That's how spirit finds us. I love Michael Jackson. Yeah, it wasn't like a rap song, no, it was Michael Jackson that came to me. I love. That I got back to my car, that song was playing on the radio. Again. I was hooked. Then I was hooked. I said, Okay, you've got me. I'm yours, whatever you need. I am all ears. Wow. And so of course, I had doubts. Of course I felt like, well, I'm not enough from what I to what I was hearing the call. It sounded so big. It sounded like way bigger than I had the potential or capacity to fulfill. And yet I stayed obedient to the call and what I was hearing. I took notes about what I was hearing, I took notes about all my synchronicities, and a decade later, I actually wrote a book about all my experiences at the labyrinth so I never saw that coming, that I'd have a published book with one of the biggest publishers in the world. But that's how it turned out, because I listened to the call, I got quiet and I trusted even though at times it really felt like crazy talk.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

I really love that you're being so honest about that feeling of the crazy talk, because this happens to a lot of people when they're having these spiritual awakenings of any sort where they feel like, Have I lost my mind? And it was a question I asked myself many times too, like, Am I losing it? Like, is this? Am I just making this stuff up? Like, what's going on? Right? So, you know, I think that's so important for us to talk about it, because that's a pretty normal part of the awakening experience is to question our sanity.

Elaine Glass:

And really what we're using is a God given tool called imagination.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

Yes, indeed, yes.

Elaine Glass:

And coupled with intention from a loving space creates magic in your life.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

Amen, I love that. Did you guys hear that she just gave you a formula imagination less intention equals magic. That's what I just heard. And so this is so beautiful, because I think a lot of us, we shut the imagination down, and I teach my students, imagination is one of the first things that we dial up again when they're ready for their intuition. Because imagination is a pathway to our intuition. It is one of the huge assets to being able to step into our gifts as these frequency beings, as these energy beings. And so I love that you brought this in to this formula, because I think that many of us as adults have shut so much of that down. Would you agree with that

Elaine Glass:

100% and I love that you teach your students that way, what a gift you are to them. You know what I found for myself and what I find for others that I help is that particularly women. I believe that women's greatest, one of womankind's greatest achievements, is play, and that's where imagination bubbles up from, yeah, but we are holding the weight of the world on us. The the and we allow that to stay heavy. Yeah, on our minds, on our hearts and on our souls and in the energy field, is so heavy that the paths that I walk and the paths that I teach now are this cleaning and clearing of that heaviness, and when we get to that lighter beingness, that lighter energy, that frequency of energy, that becomes so light that We are, the lightness of being that is the space where then we can create,

DeeAnne Riendeau:

Yes, and that is our ultimate creativity. I mean women, we think about our womb and what we create. I mean we create babies, we create life. I mean it's so profound. And not that men can't create either, but we are meant to be these epicenters of creation, and we can't do that if we're restricting our ability to play in the space.

Elaine Glass:

Yes, we have been programmed that we are not the potential. That we are, and we say, well, we can make babies. If that's what you have done in your life, we can make babies. And that's normal because, oh, you just well, like that, she's pregnant. She'd have a baby. But like, like you said, like, Um, hello, you are creating a human being in your body, yeah, I mean that is, there are no words, I know so. What makes you think that you cannot do just as much in this lifetime? But it is too loud. We are weighing things. Are weighing too heavy on us to be able to access that message, yes. And so I got really clear, and I know that our souls are here to guide us, and when we are disconnected from that guidance, we feel lost.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

That's right. We do, yeah, we feel really lost.

Elaine Glass:

And I know I felt lost at my rock bottom moment during my divorce, but it was only because of one thing. I had lost, my connection to spirit and God. They lost those conversations. That is the one main takeaway, wow. It is the only one.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

It's that simple. Everybody. It's that simple. You know, we overcomplicate things, but Elaine, what you're saying is so profound and so simple, but yet it is the answer. It is the key that unlocks us from that feeling of being lost. Is that direct relationship with God, with divine, our spirit within ourselves. That is it. I love that beautiful, beautiful takeaway.

Elaine Glass:

And so the book is called Get Quiet, Seven Simple Paths to the Truth of Who You are. Beautiful, because it is all about simplicity. Yeah, I think there are so many messengers making this so complicated, there's nothing complicated about Go. Get quiet somewhere, and you will hear the clear message. You will.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

You will, yeah.

Elaine Glass:

Because it's not going to be you will know your overthinking mind, your overthinking mind, prattles on incessantly. It will be fear based thinking, but the moment I got in that labyrinth and heard surrender, it was the most loving voice, like a mother's voice, just speaking to you, beautiful and it's just about creating that space for yourself to hear the guidance so that you don't feel lost. There should be no feeling lost anymore.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

I love this. This is it. We just have to be willing to get quiet. You know, Eleni talked about the world being so loud and there is so much information, right? Oh, we're stimulation. We've got, you know, TV, and we've got social media, we've got people, we've got all the things. It's all coming at us, and it's overwhelming. And so I love that you called this book get quiet, because this is the way that we can start to connect with that spirit and and that truth within us, and that simple message of surrender that ended up being so powerful and potent for you as you went through this process, you had to surrender, but you got the answers that you needed as you went because you were willing To get quiet and to listen to those calls. So thank you for those listening those listening calls. So Elaine, you know, as we kind of come to the tail end of our conversation, here, is there anything else that you want to share with our audience in terms of value, in terms of things that you knew or want them to know that will help them as they continue their journeys.

Elaine Glass:

I would want you to know that whatever you may be going through, that you are not alone. You have God, you have a whole spirit team that is just waiting for you to connect to it. You are never alone.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

Beautiful, you know, in the wise words of Michael Jackson, you are not alone, right? It's so beautiful that it came back around to that. But it is true. You know, I know it feels lonely, you know, as we're going through the experience, but we're really not alone. And there are people like you and people like me as well, who've been there, done that, that are also here, waiting eagerly, just like our spirit team, just like God, waiting eagerly for you to get quiet and for you to open yourself up to the love that is really here and available to you. Oh so good. Okay, so we know about your book. We're going to put the link for the book in the show notes for our audience. Elaine, is there anything else that you want to invite people to explore in terms of your work now? And can you give us just a little idea of who you work with and the work that you do so that people know?

Elaine Glass:

Yes. Well, you can find me at Elaineglass.com you can also find the book at get quiet.com or anywhere you buy your books. Awesome. I help women in particular in midlife transitions.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

Beautiful. So for all of those of you that are listening in your midlife transition, whatever that might be, whether it's divorce or babies or job career changes, this is a space and a place where Elaine focuses her energy and her work, all right, so that really is coming to wrap up any final words before we say goodbye.

Elaine Glass:

Thank you so much for having me. And the final words would be, if you are feeling lost, go walk a labyrinth, you will be found. And what are we actually finding? What do clients say to me that they're missing the most. They're missing themselves, and that is where you will feel found. You will feel the wholeness, and it is the love inside of you that you actually going to connect with.

DeeAnne Riendeau:

It'sall there. It's all inside of us, right? It's all there for us. God has given us these innate, powerful gifts, and again, sometimes they just get buried under the noise and the conditioning that we've experienced. So what a wonderful invitation, Elaine, to leave all of you with to go into that journey and find yourself within yourself beautiful. Thank you so much Elaine, for being on our show. We love having guests like you who've been through it and have learned from it and then taken their experiences to be able to serve the world and humanity. So thank you so much for taking time to be with all of us today. So we will say goodbye, everybody till next time.
